ProtectDefenders.eu, the European Union Human Rights Defenders Mechanism, is looking for a Head of Finance & Administration to join the Secretariat’s Leadership Team in Brussels.
Behind every emergency grant, every relocation, every piece of urgent support we provide to human rights defenders at risk, there is a system of financial management, compliance and administration that has to work, accurately, securely, and on time. This role leads that system.
The Head of Finance & Administration will oversee all support functions of the Secretariat, finance, human resources, IT, logistics and procurement, for a team of 15. They will be accountable for consolidating financial reporting across our consortium of member organisations, coordinating multi-annual budgets across four donor contracts, and ensuring the Secretariat operates safely, lawfully and sustainably. As a member of the Leadership Team, they will work closely with the Director and the Head of Programmes & Partnerships, and will provide the financial and operational analysis that underpins the organisation’s governance.
We’re looking for someone with at least eight years of experience in financial and operational management, including senior-level responsibility within a multi-partner consortium and experience managing EU funding. Just as important is a collaborative leadership style, sound judgement, and a genuine commitment to the mission of protecting human rights defenders worldwide.
This is a full-time, Brussels-based position, offered initially as a one-year fixed-term contract with the intention of moving to open-ended, subject to performance and funding.
Deadline for applications: 25 August 2026.
